"Walking in that familiar dusty road, back from the land across seven seas,
With education as my shiny veneer and a fat cheque as my shield,
I remember fondly the falling red leaves of a world I left behind,
I embrace my past as I come on to the same old cobbled street.
Dirty faced, sun kissed kids still playing in the sand …
A beggar here, a street dog there waiting for some bread.
The same lane is now studded with bungalows of greed,
A BMW, an Audi don't seem out of reach.
Everything has changed on that gorgeous shaded street.
Everything feels the same on that warm summer day…
The familiar face of a happy mom still welcomes me from the roof…
The loving hug of a proud dad calms my troubled soul.
    I am finally home.
Yes, this very gulmohar lane ,
Where the street is carpeted with fallen gold,
And the sun bursts with softened flame.
The very place where beauty lives in the most unexpected ways,
The very place I call my home is on the Gulmohar Lane."

On an ordinary day, sitting at my office desk,
I decided to take a trip down the memory lane.
That very lane called “Gulmohar Lane”.
Where we played as kids and parted as teens.
Where our parents taught us to walk,
and we chose to walk out (of)
that very lane called “Gulmohar Lane”.
    Reminiscent of childhood, friendship, kinship
and memories carved out of gold in the heart.
That very lane called “Gulmohar lane”.
Where I belong and long to return …

  4. His breath crystallised
    As golden rays of sunlight
    Lit up technicolor blossoms
    Against the bleak roads
    Of gulmohar lane.
Heat tempered the cold edge of winter
    Rendering the wordsmith speechless
    For a while.

  6. As Spring heralds beautiful hues and full blown flowers,
Nature captivates me in its dizzying powers!

I don't as much look forward to getting sloshed in the rain,
As I wish to see the scarlet petals dotting Gulmohar Lane!

  7. The crimson petals rain as I lean on my cane,
remembering the pain of saying bye to you on Gulmohar Lane.
The tears stain my cheek, I hear my old bones creak
while the sun plays hide and seek on Gulmohar Lane.

  8. I thought of times past
    and how childhood memories last
of the mogra climbing my window pane
and the orange blooms of Gulmohar Lane

  9. Fiery orange blooms welcome me
Cool shade in the summer heat
A petal falls into my open palm,
    I smiled as I remembered
Here is where I lost a tooth as a little girl,
trying to catch the petals before it fell in a twirl,
Gulmohar lane, I had called it fondly
Still the same, bright and happy.

  10. As the winter light is fading
To the chill before the rain
    Scarlet summer blooms are waiting
    For you on Gulmohar Lane.
